PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TOOLS
Many districts and schools
provide a significant amount of time and money for Professional Development. Not
many schools use analytical means to organize the most powerful Professional
Development activities.
The tools included in this
site are for the following subject areas.
1) Science, 2) Math, 3)
Technology Integration 4) Integrated Studies
Example uses:
- Continuum - The continuums
are meant to be used at the individual, building, district and regional
levels. Individuals can use the continuum of skills to identify behaviors that
match the facilitation of the curriculum reform and best practice research.
- Principal Support -
Principals need to know the nature of quality teaching in all subject areas.
These tools help principals do that by describing effective teaching related
to content, instruction and assessment. The principal needs to know and
understand these methodologies in order to support staff and coordinate
resources to enable implementation and sustainability.
- School Improvement team -
Building school improvement teams can collect and compile results to show what
kind of professional development is most needed. Then plans can be made for
quality Professional Development and funding can be justified.
- District, regions -
Districts can compile data across schools to plan quality professional
development and can also work with regional, school district, RESA or
Math/Science centers to provide support.
