Language Arts/Social Studies Task Force

Integrated Language Arts, incorporating reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing, which are skills imbedded in all curriculum areas, is the major focus of the task force. The member district representatives have been intimately involved with the state's efforts to develop the English Language Arts Model Core Curriculum Standards and Benchmarks and MEAP and HSPT development in reading and writing. The Task Force shares local district programs and strategies for helping students achieve in the Language Arts skills, helping schools integrate the Language Arts throughout the curriculum and helping teachers employ best teaching practices. They meet regularly with MDE staff to address the Michigan English Language Arts Framework project and related issues.
